Why Share Business Broadband
Costs?
Even smaller businesses can have high performance dedicated Internet
access by splitting the cost of a T1, T3 or fiber optic line with
other businesses in their building or business park. By pooling
resources, the group can afford a higher bandwidth than any individual
business.
Medical Imaging Transmission
Bandwidth
Medical images, such as those generated by Teleradiology equipment,
have large file sizes due to high resolution. Rapid transmission
between hospitals and medical centers requires high availability,
high bandwidth telecommunication services. For smaller offices
or infrequent use, a T1 data line or bonded T1 lines might suffice.
For medium and larger facilities, DS3, Fast Ethernet and OCx fiber
optic services are recommended.
DS3 for Call Center Telephony
DS3 voice service can support up to 672 simultaneous telephone
conversations without blocking. If your call center or large corporate
PBX system requires this number of outside lines, DS3 is likely
far more cost effective than ordering the equivalent 28 T1 lines.
What is the T-Carrier System?
T-Carrier is a set of standards developed by the Bell Telephone
Companies back in the 1950s. These include T1 and T3 lines. They
also define digital signal levels such as DS0, DS1 and DS3. DS0
is 64 Kbps, DS1 is 1.5 Mbps and DS3 is 45 Mbps.
What is DS3 over Copper?
DS3oC, or DS3 over Copper, is a last mile connectivity solution
that delivers high bandwidth service where fiber optic connections
are unavailable or not cost effective to construct. Instead, standard
twisted pair copper wires like those used for telephone or T1
line service provide the link from the carrier POP to your building.
Multiple pairs and special modulation schemes are used to provision
carrier-grade DS3 service on copper wiring.
