DS3 Equivalent to 28 T1 Lines
DS3 service at a signaling rate of 44.736 Mbps is the equivalent
of 28 T1 lines at their signaling rate of 1.544 Mbps. Because
of the strict synchronization of TDM services, 28 T1 lines may
be multiplexed into a single DS3 service.
Colocation is Often Cost Effective
Colocation is locating your servers in a colocation facility,
also known as a carrier hotel. Advantages of this approach include
ready availability of low cost bandwidth including DS3, Carrier
Ethernet and SONET Fiber Optic OCx options. These data centers
also offer backup power, environmental control and high levels
Dedicated DS3 Internet Access
Business broadband via DS3 dedicated Internet service offers 45
Mbps of upload and download capability. That's enough to support
a medium size or larger office, including file transfers, email
and Web browsing, video conferencing and real-time ecommerce activities.
DS3 as Ethernet Transport
DS3 bandwidth at 45 Mbps can easily transport 10 Mbps Ethernet
over SONET or T3 line, even with the additional overhead needed
to convert from packet to TDM back to packet protocol. For Fast
Ethernet transport, an OC3 service at 155 Mbps would be required.
Difference Between DSL and
DSL means Digital Subscriber Line and is a shared bandwidth service
offered on a "best effort" basis by telephone companies.
DS3 is a professional telecom service with a fixed bandwidth of
45 Mbps both upload and download. DS3 is usually sold with on
a contract with a service level agreement.
